WI-Sen: DeMint still undermining GOP Senate efforts

Jim DeMint
"Hmmm, how can I continue sabotaging a GOP Senate majority?"
The reality on the ground:

Public Policy Polling (PDF). 8/12-14. Wisconsin voters. MoE 3.4% (5/19-22 results)

Tammy Baldwin (D) 42 (44)
Tommy Thompson (R) 50 (45)

Tammy Baldwin (D) 40 (46)
Mark Neumann (R) 44 (41)

These early numbers are jumping around a lot, likely in response to recent events. The May numbers came on the heel of the Osama Bin Laden news, so likely gave Dems a boost. The more recent numbers come as Obama's national numbers tank amidst a worsening economic picture.

But no matter how you slice it, the GOP has a better chance at the seat with former Gov. Thompson on the ticket. But never fear, Sen. Jim DeMint will do his best to pull a Christine O'Donnell/Sharrrron Angle/Ken Buck in Wisconsin. From an email he sent supporters (plus me) this morning:

If Mark Neumann is elected, there is no question that he will fight to save freedom.

I could go on and on about Mark Neumann's conservative credentials, but you get the picture. He's the real deal. So here's my question: Do you think SCF [Senate Conservative Fund] should endorse Mark Neumann and add him to our slate of conservative candidates for the 2012 elections? [...]

[M]edia reports indicate that a Democrat-lite Republican could challenge Neumann for the nomination. This challenger is well-known statewide and has major fundraising connections, but he also backed ObamaCare and will not stand up for our values when it matters.

So Thompson is the "Democrat-lite Republican," while Neumann will jump into a lake to rescue freedom.

Just remember—in 2010, Jim DeMint endorsed Sharrrrrron Angle in Nevada, Christine O'Donnell in Delaware and Ken Buck in Colorado against more electable Republicans. Had the GOP establishment gotten their candidates, and had they not been forced to spend millions defending even victorious Jim DeMint projects like Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell would be Senate Majority Leader today.

So let's hope he keeps it up!
